JAMES GLEICKS RENOWNED CHAOS NOW AVAILABLE FROM OPEN ROAD AS AN ENHANCED EBOOK

03.22.2011– March 22, 2011 New York, NY—Open Road Integrated Media, a digital content company that publishes and markets ebooks, announced today that it is releasing James Gleick’s classic CHAOS: MAKING A NEW SCIENCE worldwide as both an enhanced and traditional ebook.

“We are proud to digitally publish a selection of James Gleick's backlist titles. CHAOS, the enhanced edition, was created in close collaboration with James Gleick in order to help highlight and explain the concepts as they were originally envisioned,” said Rachel Chou, Chief Marketing Officer for Open Road.

On sale March 22, the enhanced editions available on Apple’s iBookstore and Kindle AV platforms include motion graphic video with Gleick’s explanatory voiceover and remastered illustrations, to better represent the concepts explained in the text. The full-length enhanced edition of Gleick’s seminal work includes seven videos and sixty illustrations re-mastered and adapted for full-color displays. Interviews with leading theoreticians, a video introduction from the author, and motion graphics depicting concepts such as the famous Lorenz Attractor—the concept that birthed chaos theory—complement Gleick’s elegant prose.

A free sample chapter of the enhanced ebook is available from Apple’s iBookstore and the Amazon Kindle Store. In the sample chapter, “The Butterfly Effect,” Gleick takes the reader inside Edward Lorenz’s laboratory in 1960 and relates the experiments that sparked the development of the Lorenz equations, the Lorenz Attractor, the Lorenzian Water Wheel, and, eventually, chaos theory.

The Open Road production team spent several days at Gleick’s home in Key West, filming the author and recording his voice to accompany the motion graphics in the enhanced edition of CHAOS. Visit James Gleick's Open Road author page for updated video and photo content.

The traditional ebook edition of CHAOS will be available wherever ebooks are sold and include new covers and remastered, full-color illustrations. The new editions of CHAOS join Gleick’s biographical work GENIUS: THE LIFE AND SCIENCE OF RICHARD FEYNMAN, which was released by Open Road as an ebook on February 22, 2011. GENIUS is an illuminating portrayal of Richard Feynman—a giant of twentieth century physics—from his childhood tinkering with radios to his vital work on the Manhattan Project and beyond. In this sweeping biography, James Gleick captures the forceful personality of a great man, integrating Feynman’s work and life in a way that is accessible to laymen and fascinating for the scientists who follow in his footsteps.

James Gleick, one of the nation’s preeminent science writers, was an editor and reporter for the New York Times. His first book, Chaos, was a National Book Award and Pulitzer Prize finalist and a national bestseller. His next book was the bestselling biography GENIUS: THE LIFE AND SCIENCE OF RICHARD FEYNMAN, which was shortlisted for the Pulitzer Prize.
