Dymocks joins Android bandwagon with ebook app and tablet

Rather than push a dedicated ebook reader, Australian bookseller Dymocks has chosen to follow the tablet route. The company has begun selling the Acer Iconia tablet at selected stores, and offers a free Android app for buying and reading ebooks from its catalogue.

E Fun's Next5 Android tablet and APEN writing tool

E Fun introduces its Next5 Android tablet that integrates the company’s patented digital APEN writing tool. It has a 7” TFT touch-screen color display, built-in Wi-Fi, a number of multimedia functions and a preloaded Borders eBook Store. It is the first Android tablet to include an integrated digital pen.

“Adding our patented APEN digital pen to a tablet computer was the next logical step,” commented Jason Liszewski, Managing Director and VP of Sales for E FUN. “The APEN digital pens wirelessly connect to the Next5 allowing users to make, save and/or transmit real-time notes, write emails or any number of things using regular paper and normal ink. It is another perfect example of how E FUN is putting the fun in functionality.”

The E FUN Nextbook line of Android tablets are so convenient that they can be taken anywhere and read anywhere. Among its amenities are a 7” TFT touch-screen color display, 2GB of built-in memory with support for a SD/SDHC card and an MP3/photo viewer. Built-in speakers, microphone and G-sensor are also included.

Also included is the APEN digital pen, which allows users to do real-time computer annotation of digital photos, mark documents, add electronic signatures to documents and create handwritten e-mails. Its special software digitizes handwriting and hand-drawn images, which can then be immediately shared via e-mail, in blogs or social media sites such as Facebook and Flickr.

Next5 users have access to browsing the Internet, receiving and answering e-mails, watching YouTube videos and listening to Internet music because of its built-in WiFi technology. Additionally, the Next5 has the Borders eBook Store built-in. The Borders eBook Store offers more than one-million titles, many of which are free. Next5 owners can download their favorite titles right from the comfort of their own home. The unit comes with 25 eBooks preloaded.

The E FUN Next5 Android tablet with APEN digital pen will be available in early Q2 with an MSRP of $279.99, and includes a USB cable, protective case, AC adaptor, stylus, 5”x8” note pad and instruction guide.
