Data Conversion Laboratory (DCL) Completes eBook Projects for Information Today and Plexus Publishing

Press Release Source: Data Conversion Laboratory, Inc. On Tuesday May 10, 2011, 1:00 pm EDT

FRESH MEADOWS, N.Y., May 10, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Data Conversion Laboratory (DCL) recently completed eBook projects for Information Today, Inc.c and Plexus Publishing, Inc. DCL provides conversion services and software to publishers, information aggregators, industry, government, libraries and documentation developers. DCL was selected for its expertise in conversions to eBook formats such as EPUB and MOBI.

For Information Today and Plexus, the eBook conversion project was a new experience and was driven in part by the desire to release the eBook format of a New York Times bestseller -- Boardwalk Empire: The Birth, High Times, and Corruption of Atlantic City -- in time to coincide with a series it inspired that was produced for HBO by Martin Scorsese and Terence Winter.

John B. Bryans, Editor-in-Chief and Publisher at Information Today and Plexus Publishing, said: "This endeavor allowed us to create 20 key titles in various eBook formats. DCL made it possible for us to get into eBook publishing without increasing staff or asking our current team to take on additional responsibilities." Bryans added, "Like other small and medium-sized publishers, we knew we needed to get into the eBook market, and we feel that this has been a real, credible step. DCL made it hassle-free and offered amazing support. We are excited about the future of electronic publishing and are glad that Unlimited Priorities Corporationc introduced us to DCL."

Mark Gross, DCL President and CEO, commented: "We were happy to hear that Information Today and Plexus are seeing an uptick in sales as a result of their foray into eBooks. It was a pleasure working with these publishers, helping them to understand the process necessary to handle the complexities between publishing to a paper format versus an electronic format."

Innovative eBook, Briggs/Cochran Calculus, Honored as Finalist in 2011 Software & Information Industry Association ...

Boston, MA (PRWEB) April 25, 2011

Briggs/Cochran Calculus, an innovative eBook from Pearson, is a finalist in the prestigious 2011 Software & Information Industry Association (SIIA) CODiE Awards. The eBook is honored in the Best Mathematics Instructional Solution category.

Established in 1986, the CODiE Awards celebrate outstanding achievement across the software, digital information and education technology industries. Nominated products undergo an intensive review by subject matter experts, analysts, journalists and other respected authorities in education technology.

"This finalist honor from the SIIA CODiE Awards program is a leading example of how Pearson and its authors are adapting to the ways college and university students learn math," said Greg Tobin, President of Mathematics and Statistics for Pearson Higher Education.

The groundbreaking eBook is part of a new calculus program from authors William Briggs (University of Colorado, Denver), Lyle Cochran (Whitworth University), Bernard Gillett (University of Colorado at Boulder) and Eric Schulz (Walla Walla Community College). The program includes both printed text and digital text. All digital resources are published within Pearson's market-leading MyMathLab program.

Schulz created the new eBook with the help of his co-authors. The eBook combines narrative material, examples and exercises, together with 650 interactive figures in an engaging, dynamic and rigorous presentation. In the Calculus eBook, the words, examples and interactive figures appear together, reinforcing one another. All of the controls on the interactive figures are buttons or sliders, eliminating the learning curve for their use and allowing students and instructors to "get to the concept" more directly than before, showing students aspects of calculus they had not previously been able to see on a printed page or on the chalkboard.

For the second consecutive year, Pearson tops the list of companies with products named as CODiE finalists, with 15 innovative ed-tech and information management products earning recognition. All were developed based on the company's commitment to leveraging the power of technology and innovation to prepare today's students for success in college and careers. Pearson products earning finalist honors span the spectrum of today's breakthrough education and business technology products, such as mobile learning apps, educational games, technology-driven professional development and robust systems for managing information and data. Pearson's programs are focused on college- and career-readiness and preparing students to meet the Common Core State Standards.

In addition to Briggs/Cochran Calculus, the company's products moving on to the next round of competition in this year's CODiE Awards are enVisionMATH: Understanding Fractions; EQUELLA; Grammar Jammers Primary Edition; Hospitality and Tourism Interactive; MyLiteratureLab; MyMathLab Algebra I and II; MyMathTest; MyReadingLab; myWorld Geography; PowerSchool; PowerTeacher 2.0; SuccessMaker; SuccessMaker Collaborate; and Words Their Way Online Workshop.

In the next step of the CODiE Awards process, Briggs/Cochran Calculus will be voted on by the entire SIIA membership, who determines the winner in each category. The CODiE Awards will be announced at the 2011 Ed Tech Industry Summit in San Francisco on May 23.
